The
Charity Shield Tournament is the brainchild of the
Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mallam Ahmed Dasuki.
The idea of this annual Tournament is to showcase Polo
in Africa. There has always been an immense wealth of
Polo talent in the continent but never a medium to promote
it. In Nigeria alone, Polo has been played for 100 years.
The African Masters provides a forum where African Polo
players are able to come together, exhibit their talent
and share their passion for the game with other players
in a world-class environment whilst fostering regional
interaction. Fifth Chukker was proud/honoured to host
the first ever African Masters tournament last year.
There
are 2 cups in this tournament; the Gold Cup (picture
of trophy) which is the prize for the High Goal (+16
Handicap) tournament and the Silver Cup for the Medium
Goal (+10 Handicap) tournament. Last year’s competition
saw Ghana, South Africa, Egypt and Nigeria competing
for honors, this year, the list has expanded to include
Zambia and Zimbabwe and next year we hope to cover all
the current African Polo-playing countries by including
Sudan, Kenya and Morocco.
